Fit
The fit of the Asolo Falcon Low LTH GV makes them suitable for normal feet. Feet with a somewhat high instep are possible, but too wide at the toes does not fit. The ladies version has a narrower heel, more heel lift and a higher instep.
Construction
For the upper of the Falcon Low LTH GV, Asolo uses 1.6 to 1.8 mm thick suede leather. A soft synthetic material is used around the ankles: Schoeller Soft Shell. The nose is protected by a good synthetic rubber (TPU) bumper. This is missing at the heel. The sole itself offers decent all-round protection.
The sole is quite stiff but the flex point of the sole is neatly below the middle of the forefoot. The outsole is made by the Italians from Vibram. It is nice that the shoes can be resoled. All eyelets are made of metal. Nice is that the top two are not eyes but brackets as you see on regular mountain boots. A breathable and waterproof Gore-Tex membrane keeps your feet dry.

Putting on
Thanks to the top lace hooks, loosening the laces is Childs play after which the tongue opens up quite wide. Getting your feet in is then easy, especially with the help of the good pull loop on the back of the heel. Fastening the thin round laces goes smoothly. The laces don’t tend to come off on their own. The tongue is fixed in the middle by the laces so that it does not sag when walking. We do find the tongue somewhat weak at the top and this requires attention when lacing, because otherwise it has the tendency to bulge.
Practice
The Asolo’s are a solid platform under and around your feet. The upper is sturdy and offers the feet a lot of support. The softshell material on the outside and the synthetic material on the inside around the ankles are very comfortable. It is striking that the tongue is not extremely padded, but you do not feel the laces pushing through the tongue. As a result, the top of the tongue is so thin that you don’t feel it pressing against the foot.
The sole is sturdy and you will notice this while walking. Stones do not push through the sole. The sole itself has a rounded heel and a banana shape at the forefoot that makes it easy to roll under your foot. The demping is good. This is not only due to the cushioning in the midsole, but also because of the beautiful agronomical-shaped removable insole with built-in cushioning at the heel. The insole at the forefoot is perforated, which also allows it to wick away sweat to the somewhat like underlay.
The TPU material protects the nose reasonably, it should run a little further. The Vibram Redster sole with double rubber compound (Megagrip) offers excellent traction on dry and wet. The heel has excellent braking properties when descending. The Asolo Falcon Low LTH GV have proven to be waterproof. The wading height is 65 mm.
Verdict
The Asolo Falcon Low LTH GV is a well-made hiking shoe with a somewhat traditional appearance. Nice detail are the upper eyelets that are actually brackets as we see on high mountain boots. This makes the shoes easy to put on and lace up. The shoes have a sturdy upper of suede leather and a sturdy sole construction. The walking comfort of the shoe is high. The protection of the nose could be better and we also find the top of the tongue somewhat flabby. The Gore-Tex membrane does its job: breathing and yet being waterproof. A plus for durability is the fact that the shoes can be resoled. The price of € 169.95 is average. I rate the Asolo Falcon Low LTH GV at 9 points out of 10.
