The Meindl Bellavista MFS is a real B shoe with a high shank. It is suitable for longer trips with a well-filled backpack. Read the review.
Meindl Bellavista MFS Fit
The fit of the Meindl Bellavista MFS is for normal feet with a normal to slightly high instep. The ladies version has a narrower heel.
Construction
The Meindl Bellavista MFS is made entirely of soft nubuck leather. The upper and large parts of the shank are made of a thick quality. Where the shank should be able to move in relation to the upper, it is made of a thinner supple quality. The nose of the Meindl has a good protective edge. On the heel it is considerably smaller. The eyelets are made of metal. A lining with a Gore-Tex membrane makes the shoes waterproof. Under the Meindl is a Meindl Multigrip by Vibram outout. The construction of the sole is quite flexible. The Meindl’s are resoleable.
Putting on
The Meindl Bellavista MFS is easy to put on thanks to its widely folded tongue construction. The large amount of foam in the MFS system makes it necessary to push the foot through. At the back of the shank I’m missing a bit of a pulling loop. The round laces glide smoothly through the eyelets. Nice are the clamping eyes on the instep; this allows you to tension the instep differently than the shank. The laces usually stay in place. In the middle of the tongue a hook prevents the tongue from sinking.
Practice
The MFS system (Memory Foam System) is an all-important part of the Meindl Bellavista MFS. The foam sits around the ankles and in the tongue and ensures that you never have pressure points. It’s certainly comfortable, but it also makes the shoes feel a bit ‘woolly’. Thanks to the high shank and the MFS system, the shoes give good support to the ankles and trips with a sturdy backpack are no problem. The Meindl’s walk very easily. The sole has a nice banana shape and it bends nicely under the forefoot. The bumper protects the toes well. The sole offers good grip on wet and dry. The heel has a so-called brake that prevents you from sliding when descending. The cushioning of the shoe is fine, also thanks to the cushioning and moisture absorbing removable insole. The Gore-Tex membrane does its job. During the test it proved to be waterproof. Excessive sweat on the feet is no problem. The wading height is 13 cm.
Verdict
The Meindl Bellavista MFS is a purebred B shoe. The weight of 1280 grams is neat. Thanks to the MFS system, comfort is at a high level if you like the somewhat ‘woolly’ feeling. The shoe gives a lot of support to the ankles. The sole construction and the beautiful insole provide good cushioning. The sole is also comfortable to walk on and offers a lot of grip. The shoe is waterproof thanks to the Gore-Tex membrane, which also ensures that in not too warm conditions sweaty feet are avoided. The nose is well protected but there is no bumper all around. What’s nice is that the lacing tension on the instep and the shank can be adjusted separately from each other. The fact that the outsole is resoleable is a plus. The Meindl Bellavista MFS costs € 244.95, which is a reasonable average for such a shoe. I rate the Meindl Bellavista MFS at 9,1 points out of 10 total.
