Hilleberg Nallo 3 GT – Overview
The Hilleberg Nallo 3 GT is a premium three-person, four-season tunnel tent that balances lightweight design with exceptional weather protection. Known for its high-quality materials and durability, this tent is part of Hilleberg’s Red Label collection, making it suitable for year-round adventures, from winter camping to summer backpacking. The Swedish tent maker Hilleberg has a strong reputation when it comes to lightweight tents. In the Netherlands, it is one of the most popular tent brands. The Hilleberg Nallo series is one of the most popular tents in the Hilleberg collection. Time to test the popular Hilleberg Nallo 3 GT!

Bo Hilleberg
Bo Hilleberg is the father of the Nallo series. He designed the first one in 1987—a two-pole tunnel tent for one person. Over the years, the Nallo series has evolved. The two-pole version is still available today, now in sizes for 2 to 4 people. The larger variant is the Nallo GT: a three-pole tunnel tent with an extended vestibule. This version is also available for 2 to 4 people.
Tent Fabric: Part I
The Nallo 3 GT is part of Hilleberg’s Red Label collection. These are all lightweight tents that can be used year-round—true four-season tents. A key feature is that the outer fabric extends all the way to the ground, providing optimal protection against weather conditions. However, the tent does not have snow flaps.

All tents in the Red Label collection use Kerlon 1200 outer fabric, a material exclusive to Hilleberg. Kerlon 1200 is a ripstop nylon with a thickness of 40 denier. To make it waterproof, the fabric is coated with three layers of silicone on both the inside and outside and has a UV-resistant coating. Due to this silicone coating, the seams are not taped, as this is not possible. If you find a small leak at a stitch hole, you can seal it with seam sealant—only on the inside, as applying it on the outside would look messy.
The inner tent is also made of 40 denier ripstop nylon and has a water-repellent coating, which helps condensation droplets bead off the fabric. The groundsheet is made of 100 denier nylon with a triple polyurethane coating to make it waterproof. Finally, for those who love specifications: the outer fabric has a waterproof rating of 5,500 mm water column, and the groundsheet has a rating of 20,000 mm.

In the Stuff Sack
The Hilleberg Nallo 3 GT weighs 3,100 grams in its complete packed form. The tent consists of an inner and an outer tent, which are attached together using small elastic loops. I measured the inner tent weighs 905 grams, and the outer tent weighs 1,443 grams (including all guy lines).

The Hilleberg Allak 3 is a lightweight freestanding dome tent for four seasons and two to three persons.
The poles are Featherlite NSL Green from DAC, with a diameter of 9 mm—top quality. Two poles are the same length, while the third is a different length and color-coded with the pole sleeve. The red tape marking is a bit crude, though. The poles weigh 499 grams and have a packed length of 43 cm, making them easy to carry in a backpack.
20 aluminum pegs, weighing a total of 253 grams, are included in the package.

Hilleberg Nallo 3 GT Pitching
Pitching the Hilleberg Nallo 3 GT is super easy—assuming the inner tent is already attached to the outer tent. Simply slide the poles through the pole sleeves (which goes super smooth), stake the back of the tent with two pegs, then pull the front tight like an accordion and stake it down with two more pegs. After that, secure the remaining points and tension the guy lines. In calm weather, the four pegs are usually sufficient.

Versatility
Being able to detach the inner tent from the outer tent offers several advantages. First, it’s useful when packing up in the rain—you can pack the outer tent last, keeping everything else dry. Additionally, the outer tent can be used on its own as a shelter, which is great for those wanting to travel with less weight. The inner tent can also be used separately as a mosquito tent in warm weather. Hilleberg recommends buying a separate pole set for this, but with a bit of creativity, you can make it work with the standard poles. If you find the standard inner tent too warm for summer use, Hilleberg also offers a mesh inner tent for the Nallo 3 GT.

Living Space
The Hilleberg Nallo 3 GT is a true trekking tent, so don’t expect lots of space—especially if you’re camping with three people. The inner tent is 220 cm long, 127 cm wide at the foot end, and 160 cm wide at the head end. Sleeping three is only possible with tapered sleeping pads no wider than 50 cm. It works, but in practice, the 3 GT is better suited for two people or parents with a small child.
The inner tent has a height of 82 cm, which might feel cramped for taller people. It features a large entrance with a double zipper—one for the door itself and another for the mosquito net. Inside, there are two small pockets and a cord at the top that serves as a clothesline. The bathtub-style groundsheet has a 10 cm height, ensuring the inner tent remains dry even in heavy rain.

Hilleberg Nallo 3 GT Vestibule
While there’s some storage space inside the tent, the vestibule is the best place for gear. It is 180 cm long and 160 cm wide at the center. The height is 105 cm, which isn’t spacious but is sufficient. If you plan to use the vestibule as a living space, consider getting the optional footprint—not just to keep your gear dry but also to reduce condensation.
Entrances
The vestibule is cleverly designed. On the left side of the middle section, a zipper runs almost all the way to the top. There’s also an entrance on the right side at the front. This means you can always enter from a sheltered side. Additionally, the entire front of the vestibule can be rolled up to create an open shelter. Two guy lines at the front prevent the tent from collapsing. With the front open, you can enjoy a great view from inside the inner tent.

Ventilation & Condensation
Many lightweight tents with siliconized nylon outer tents are sensitive to condensation. Especially four-season tents where the groundsheet extends to the ground. To limit condensation, the Nallo 3 GT has a very large ventilation opening at the front. This can be stretched out well with a guy line and a metal wire in the ‘cap’ ensures that it stays open nicely. It is good that the opening can be closed with a zipper. It could have been better: there is no mosquito net behind the opening.

At the rear of the Hilleberg Nallo 3 GT is the second ventilation opening. And this opening is very nicely thought out. The outer cover is provided with a zipper in the middle; it looks a bit like the slit in a tailcoat. The zipper itself has large eyelets through which you can put a peg so that it cannot creep up in the wind when closed. Peg out, zipper up and you can neatly roll away the two flaps and that’s how you get a draft in the tent.
So much for the theory. Despite these large ventilation openings, the Hilleberg Nallo 3 GT does suffer from condensation. It depends a bit on the weather, but it is never completely dry on the inside. Note: I have not tested it with the official footprint of the Swedes, but with an almost matching tarpaulin and then the condensation is really less. However, using a footprint significantly reduces it.

Tent Fabric: Part II
As mentioned in previous tests, thin silicone-coated fabric is sensitive to temperature and weather changes. In dry weather, the tent stands firm, but after rain or a drop in temperature (such as at night), the fabric relaxes, making the tent appear slack. This is a trade-off for having an ultralight tent. The Hilleberg Nallo 3 GT is no exception, although its relatively thick 40D fabric mitigates this issue somewhat. Still, re-tensioning is necessary.
Conclusion
The Hilleberg Nallo 3 GT is an excellent trekking tent for two to three people. While improved ventilation has reduced condensation, the inner side of the outer tent can still get quite wet in bad weather. It’s lightweight, easy to set up, and performs well in harsh conditions. The versatile vestibule is very practical. In terms of detail, this is one of the best tents I’ve ever tested. The price of € 1390,- is steep but typical for this category.
